FlavourTalk Amsterdam 2020
The FlavourTalk Raw Materials Exhibition and Conference was held in Amsterdam on 11-12 March 2020. This event, organised by Acumentia members Dave Baines, John Points, Craig Duckham and Melanie Brown, was paired down from previous years due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. As it turned out, this was the last week of the Dutch Government’s advice to continue with ‘business as usual’ and the following week public gatherings were restricted in numbers.
A total of 95 people attended, down from the 246 delegates who had registered. Thirteen companies (instead of the 28 expected exhibitors) showcased raw materials on 11th March in a round table, speed-dating format allowing delegates to sample a good selection of the featured products and speak with suppliers.
Despite fewer attendees, the feedback was excellent and all participants enjoyed a more relaxed and less formal event reporting that they could engage more fully with other delegates. This provides food for thought for the organisation of the event in 2022.
The conference on 12th March provided an opportunity to hear leading speakers at the forefront of flavour technology discuss topics of key importance to the European market. Entitled ‘Natural flavours: innovations, technologies and authenticity’, the conference addressed marketing and regulation of natural flavour extracts and ingredients as well as measurement of their authenticity.
